I am doing my practice besides a very kind and experienced dental hygienist, who is working for more than 15 years in the same practice. I am watching her visiting and treating every patients. I am not touching the patient at all and only observing the way she do the motivation interview, regular check-up both for pockets and any damages to the oral cavity, than cleaning (scaling) and the rest of oral hygiene processes. I do assist her by providing her the materials treatments and preparing the dental tools. Actually, I am working as an assistant now with my own willing’s. I work 4 days a week for almost complete 8 hours. I know that I will exceed my requested hours but I like to go there and observe the job, because this was a very good opportunity for me to get better understanding of my future job as a dental hygienist. I like the practice environment very much because it is a friendly and calm environments. Even though the patients are very kind specially with me, and they found it very interesting that I came to Netherlands to do my practice. I usually introduce myself and the name of the university to them, and in somehow informing them to get the permission to watch their treatments. Till now there was not any objections.
In general, I have to say that this is a great opportunity for every student, because you can see what you are going to be like in the future. You will learn how to communicate with the patients and get more confident in yourself. You will see the different types of the treatments which you can provide to your future patients with the same situations. Anyhow, I would like to thanks the university to give me this opportunity to experience such a enjoyable practice.
