Financing

Each selected student receives an Erasmus+ grant as a contribution to your travel and subsistence costs.

The grant is intended to cover additional mobility costs: i.e. Travel and hire costs (such as dormitory fees, airline tickets), but usually do not cover all study / traineeship expenses.

As an Erasmus+ student, you will be exempted from fees for tuition, registration, examinations, and charges for access to laboratories or libraries at the receiving institution. Small fees for insurance or student union membership may still apply.

From 2025 when going on long-term study mobility, additional travel support will be provided, the size of which depends on the travel distance.

In the case of short-term mobility, students going to any country for short-term physical mobility receives an Erasmus grant of 79  Eur/day.

Grant amounts and funding rules are set by the European Commission and the Education Exchange Support Fund.

Participants with physical, mental or other disabilities may receive additional funding based on actual costs incurred.

Support can be granted to:

  • For additional measures and/or services, depending on the illness and/or disability: visits to the doctor, procedures (physiotherapy, massages, etc.), rental of an adapted room, adapted transportation, material in Braille, enlarged copies of documents, translator.
  • For the living and travel expenses of the accompanying person, if it is reasonable.

The need for additional grant based on actual costs must be based on medical documents, i.e. the need for measures and/or services for which an additional grant is requested must be confirmed in an extract from medical documents issued by a doctor. The application must indicate the prices of facilities and/or services in the country of the mobility project visit.

The application is submitted to the Education Exchange Support Fund no later than 1 month before the participant’s departure for mobility. Students with physical, mental or health-related conditions may apply for additional funding after they have been selected for a mobility period.

  • Disability (physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments that may prevent full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others).
  • Health problems (health problems, including serious illness, chronic disease, medical condition or any other physical or mental health condition that precludes participation in the programs).
  • Social barriers (having or caring for a minor child/children up to 14 years of age; living in institutional care, orphans from a large family, based on current legislation).
  • Economic barriers:
    • come from families receiving low income (are one of the persons living together or persons living alone who have the right to receive or are receiving social allowance according to the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Cash Social Support for Indigent Residents);
    • students who are employed to support themselves and employed no later than 3 months prior to signing the grant agreement.

Students with fewer opportunities must report this when filling out the Erasmus+ application and present valid documents proving this to the IRD before signing the Grant Agreement.

KVK additionally supports outgoing students and graduates with fewer opportunities:

  • in case of long-term mobility – 250 EUR per month;
  • in case of short-term mobility: 100 EUR (when mobility lasts 5-12 days).

Promoting environmental sustainability, mobility participants are encouraged to choose an ecological travel. It is a round-trip journey, the majority of which uses low-emission vehicles: buses, trains, or traveling with fellow passengers, sharing one car. An ecological trip must be chosen for going to the host institution and returning to Lithuania.

KVK has the opportunity to provide additional support for an ecological trip:

  • where participants are granted travel support, the increased rate is calculated based on the distance of travel, and support for living expenses for a maximum of 6 days. Support is calculated based on the procedure established by the Educational Exchange Fund, using the Erasmus+ Distance Calculator;
  • students who do not receive support for travel expenses can receive a one-time payment of 50 EUR as additional individual support and support for living expenses for no more than 6 days.

The participant who chooses the ecological trip must inform IRD about it before signing the grant agreement.

If the distance from Klaipėda to the receiving foreign institution is less than 500 km away, students should choose green transport. The distance is calculated according to the following calculator: Distance Calculator – Erasmus+.
