Speaking of KVK’s innovative approach, education goes far beyond the traditional classroom. One of the best examples of this is the implementation of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), which cover various disciplines and aim to equip participants with knowledge, skills and perspectives; their main advantage is the combination of virtual and offline components. Furthermore, the BIPs serve as a platform for international collaboration, enabling students to engage with peers from different cultures and academic institutions.
KVK recently hosted a series of 13 Blended Intensive Programmes, each focusing on a single, unique topic. These programmes, organised by various faculties and departments, demonstrate the institution’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and enriching educational experience. The breadth and diversity of the BIP programmes is truly impressive, catering for a wide range of interests and areas of expertise, including Holistic Approach to Health (Physiotherapy case); Holistic Approach to Health (Beauty Therapy case); Building an Interdisciplinary Team in Healthcare I (Nursing case); Smart Management of Personal Finance in the Digital World; Oral Care Week; Sustainable Production – Sustainable Environment I; Sustainable Production – Sustainable Environment II; Sustainable Transport; Building an Interdisciplinary Team in Healthcare II (Social Work case); Professional Development; Using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to Provide Tourism Resources; Contemporary Challenges of Management in the Business Environment I; Contemporary Challenges of Management in the Business Environment II.
In the academic year 2023-2024, KVK experienced a large influx of participants in its Blended Intensive Programmes. A total of 218 participants from all over the world took part in this educational experience. Most participants came from the following countries – 26 (Czech Republic), 32 (Greece), 28 (Latvia), 56 (Poland), 13 (Portugal). The Business Faculty hosted 66 participants, the Health Sciences Faculty gathered 89 participants and the Technologies Faculty attracted 63 participants.
The “Use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for the delivery of tourism resources” and “Contemporary Challenges of Management in Business Environment” programs proved to be a truly fascinating experience. In addition to hands-on training in ArcGIS Pro and the creation of interactive historical maps, the programme offered a unique opportunity to see the practical application of GIS in tourism. We had the honour of taking part in a guided tour of the stunning Curonian Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The programme has repeatedly become an indicator of how successfully the KVK combines academic, cultural, educational and recreational components for the benefit and interest of the students. Not surprisingly, some students take part in more than one programme.
The BIP called “Professional Development” during the KVK International Week organized by the International Relations Department brought together staff from Erasmus offices across Europe and beyond, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and networking. Designed to create a holistic approach to education, the program seamlessly incorporated academic, cultural and entertainment elements. Erika Černeková, a participant from Comenius University in Bratislava, expressed the importance of the program and the outstanding organization of the university, noting above all the opportunity to meet colleagues from different countries, exchange ideas and experiences. Important aspects of this BIP were the opportunity to communicate and share best practices, as well as to provide a comprehensive learning experience. KVK focuses on promoting international cooperation and professional growth, which is reflected in the various events held, such as the Blended Intensive Programme.
